Decide DeKalb Celebrates Economic Development Week 2024

Strengthening Community Through Business Excellence in DeKalb County

[Decatur, Georgia, May 1, 2024] – The Decide DeKalb Development Authority is excited to announce its participation in Economic Development Week 2024, a global initiative led by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) aimed at highlighting the importance of economic development and its impact on communities worldwide. This year, Economic Development Week will take place from May 6th to May 10th, and Decide DeKalb is proud to join in the celebration with a series of programs aimed at highlighting the growth and prosperity in DeKalb County.

As a key player in fostering development and vitality in the region, Decide DeKalb is committed to providing valuable resources and support to businesses and entrepreneurs. Throughout Economic Development Week 2024, the organization will host a variety of events designed to educate, empower, and connect individuals with the tools they need to succeed in today’s economy.

Events During Economic Development Week:

  • Business Resources 101: Monday, May 6th, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm, at the Tucker Recreation Center. In partnership with the Better Business Bureau of Atlanta, this informative session will provide attendees with resources to funding organizations and insights to help grow your business in DeKalb.
  • DeKalb Entertainment Commission & Georgia Production Partners Networking: Monday, May 6th, from 6 pm to 8 pm, at the Lakehouse of Avondale Estates. DeKalb business owners are encouraged to join and learn about opportunities to engage in the film and television industry.
  • The ABCs of TADs (Tax Allocation Districts): Tuesday, May 7th at 2 pm this virtual webinar, led by Decide DeKalb’s President and resident TAD expert, Dorian DeBarr, will share the ins and outs of this economic development tool and how it can help spark positive change in the community. 
  • Opportunity Unveiled: Everything You Need to Know About State Opportunity Zones: Tuesday, May 7th at 2 pm this virtual webinar will offer valuable information about State Opportunity Zones and how businesses can leverage this program to spur investment in the area.
  • MADE In DeKalb Educator Graduation: Wednesday, May 8th, from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at the DeKalb Conference Center. The community is invited to celebrate the achievements of DeKalb educators who have completed the MADE In DeKalb program, which equips teachers with the tools and resources to direct students in the manufacturing and logistics industries.
  • Sunset in DeKalb Spring Mixer: Thursday, May 9th, at 6:00 pm on the Decatur Square. Wrapping up Economic Development Week on a festive note, Decide DeKalb hosts a lively mixer with stakeholders, peers, and community members to connect and celebrate the economic vibrancy of DeKalb County.
