Black History Month 2022

DECIDE DEKALB DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY SPOTLIGHTS SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED BUSINESSES IN THE COUNTY.

African American businesses are the focal point of Black History Month 2022.

[Decatur, GA] Decide DeKalb is kicking off Black History Month with an exciting program celebrating black-owned businesses in DeKalb County. The campaign, entitled: Look at Us, will amplify one business leader each Tuesday and Thursday in February across its social media channels. Featured entrepreneurs cover the retail, construction, beauty, and veterinarian industries.

“Small businesses have experienced unprecedented challenges since March 2020,” said Dorian DeBarr, President of Decide DeKalb. “While Decide DeKalb is committed to assisting all businesses in the county, acknowledging the unwavering perseverance and determination of some of our black entrepreneurs during Black History Month is more than appropriate.”

Decide DeKalb’s supports existing DeKalb businesses through its Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) program that proactively connects with existing businesses to understand and respond to their needs. Imani Beckles, manager of BRE confirmed that “DeKalb’s colorful tapestry of diverse businesses provides a great opportunity to identify what is most needed and build strategic approaches to help. Look at Us celebrates those businesses who are making positive strides and continue to create jobs and wealth throughout DeKalb County.”

Participants in the campaign span several industries, including construction. “It truly is an honor to be acknowledged for a job well done. Entrepreneurship is not easy. Being a black entrepreneur is even harder. However, I am a testament to what can happen when you dream big and never give up working hard and believing in your dreams”, stated David Moody, President of C.D. Moody Construction.

In addition to the social media campaign, a pre-recorded Zoom conversation, moderated by Beckles, with selected business leaders will also be available on social.
