DeKalb County has nine major medical facilities, two
large psychiatric hospitals, and a number of outpatient
clinics and other health-related services. These centers
join others in the metro Atlanta area to provide some
of the top medical care, both general and specialized
care, in the Southeast.
Children's Healthcare is one of the nation's largest
children's health systems, well known for it's exceptional
pediatric healthcare and specializations in cardiovascular,
craniofacial and neonatal services, hematology and oncology,
emergency care and rehabilitation. Emory University
Hospital is a 587-bed teaching hospital that boasts
many firsts in Georgia. It's cardiology program has
been listed one of the nation's top 10 each year that
U.S. News & World Report, has ranked hospitals,
and is one of the region's largest multiple organ and
tissue transplant centers. The Atlanta VA Medical Center
serves more than 440,000 veterans. It is also a teaching
hospital with a strong affiliation with Emory University
School of Medicine, one of the top such school in the
nation.
