DeKalb County contains nearly a fifth of the businesses
located in Metro Atlanta's 20 counties. In 2005 nearly
25,000 businesses were licensed in this county, employing
more than 360,000 people. DeKalb's diverse industry base
includes strong presence in manufacturing, retail, construction,
trade, finance, engineering, and management. More than
half of the FORTUNE 500 companies with a presence in Atlanta
have operations in DeKalb.
The county is also home to more than
150 international facilities, or more that 15 percent
of the metro Atlanta total.
Businesses have good reasons to come to DeKalb. The
State of Georgia and DeKalb County offer a variety of
tax exemptions and expansion incentives to new business
and industry. Such incentives include:
The Job Tax Credit- businesses
that relocate to DeKalb or expand into DeKalb get tax
credits for creating new jobs
The Investment Tax Credit- the State of Georgia
offers a 1% tax credit for manufacturers and telecommunications
firms that make capital investments
Corporate Headquarters Tax Credit- A company
that relocates or establishes its headquarters in Georgia
will enjoy newly created options and credits
Targeted Sales Tax Exemptions- new, targeted
incentives designed to encourage growth in traditional
manufacturing and high-tech industries
Retraining Tax Credit- Offers tax credits for
businesses that provide retraining for employees
Child Care Credit- Offers tax credits for employers
who provide or sponsor child care
