Decide DeKalb Hosts Inaugural Made In DeKalb Educator Fellowship To Create A Career Pipeline For DeKalb Students
Decatur, Georgia – Decide DeKalb, in partnership with WorkSource DeKalb, will kick-off the MADE IN DEKALB Educator Fellowship, an inaugural program designed to strengthen the connection between classrooms and careers in manufacturing and logistics industries.
MADE IN DEKALB is an abbreviation for Manufacturing, Automation, and Distribution Emerging in DeKalb, and the program immerses a group of selected educators in site visits at local DeKalb companies starting July 12. The program will also hold collaboration meetings throughout the year.
Dorian DeBarr, President of Decide DeKalb, confirmed that “a skilled and ready workforce is the key to not only a company’s success but also a community’s success. This fellowship program works to ensure that local students, through their educators, are aware of both the career paths manufacturing and logistics industries offer, and how relevant the skills learned in the classroom are in the ‘real world’ of employment.”
Upon spending time with the selected companies, the cohorts will incorporate learnings into their classroom instruction over the course of the upcoming school year. Brandon Ona, Workforce Development Analyst at Decide DeKalb, believes “the classroom is the most influential force in a students’ career path, and embracing the role our local educators have in building tomorrow’s workforce is the crux of what the MADE IN DEKALB Educator Fellowship helps to reinforce and why it will be a successful tool moving forward.”
